Chris Linnitt

•         I am a left leg above-knee amputee and a Legal Executive.  I elected to have my leg amputated on the 23rd August 2006 following years of rehabilitation as a result of a serious Road Traffic Accident caused by a third parties’ negligence.

•         It was the hardest decision I have ever had to make and to make it I had to undertake serious research into the world of AMPUTEES.

•         I needed someone who had experienced an amputation and could not find a lawyer with first or even second hand experience (i.e. with an amputee family member).  My lawyers could not recommend anyone.

•         Following my amputation and completing the necessary rehabilitation I enquired with fellow amputees as to whether they would have preferred:

•        To instruct a lawyer who had experienced a catastrophic accident and could empathise with their situation?

•         To instruct lawyers who could identify with their needs and requirements and broadly understand the seriousness of their injuries?

•         I enquired as to whether or not they were frustrated with solicitors constantly questioning the reasoning for their needs relating to their sophisticated prosthetics?

•         I questioned whether or not their needs and requirements could have been identified earlier?

•         I questioned carers as to whether it would have been easier for them to provide care without the problems of having to make difficult legal decisions alone on behalf of their loved one?

•         20 amputees out of 20 said yes!  But they said you’d have to be an amputee yourself to understand everything!
